It literally makes butter spoil faster. The whole point of butter is to remove as much water and moisture as possible and the fats won’t spoil. By soaking it in water you creat a space where mold can grow.

You put way more thing into that sandwich that your taste buds will go numb after the second bite. If you want a good sandwich, put a maximum of 2 ingredients in it, plus any single liquid topping/sauce that you like. Personally hate liquid toppings with a sandwich because soggy bread = big heresy, but everyone is different i guess.

Keep it in the fridge and just warm up a knife under hot water. The butter will last longer in the fridge

Idk I always just leave my butter out about one stick at a time, sometimes it sits there a month sometimes 2 weeks and I’ve never had any problems with it going bad, European butter is best for this though because the fat content is higher, plus it’s just better
